Unit X; We are maps

Revisiting the idea of advertisements and google tracking i can feel myself grow attached to the mysterious anonymous red circled head black figure i have been painting a lot recently, i feel as if he could be my mascot. As simplistic as it is to draw i think it illustrates the point well and paying homage to the red pin you drop on google maps which is where i initially  got the idea from. i decided to re-paint my mascot but in a different dimension, illustrating the same idea however as an isometric grid as an overlay.

Following the same colour scheme as the last time i painted this mascot i also wanted to achieve a clean and simplistic graphic design look, Thinking more about the meaning of the piece rather thinking too literal which is one of my downfalls. soon after i started painting using the iso overlay i started to see it slowly take shape and feeling fairly pleased i painted a few different variations of my mascot facing different directions just to give the illusion each one has its own path blah blah..

This being the final piece to make everything seem much more grounded i added drop shadows on each individual and the cars on the street, i wasn’t praying on adding vehicles as i think it distracts it from the point however i kept the idea of the car simple so it fitted in with the rest of this world. Im still hesitant as whether to add small miscellaneous items such as benches, bins and so on to make it seem more like a living breathing world but coming to think of it i’m not sure if thats just me putting unnecessary details. The blue line linking everyone together representing their data tracking each others preferences, location and searches creating more advertisements and a huge data map for search engines and websites, hence the caption of this piece being We are maps. The piece turned out well for me, it achieved the look i had in mind however i may touch up some final details and add more into this world but all in all, pleased! onto the next.
